At their Panda House headquarters, the WWF has introduced a number of energy- and waste-saving measures to reduce the impact on the environment, and more are in the pipeline. Reduction, re-use and recycling are the key to their working practices - make them yours, too.

Getting to work

Use public transport, cycle or walk rather than using a car to get to work.
If you drive to work, try to share your journey with colleagues who live near you or on your route.
Consider joining the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), which provides a national reliable breakdown service and campaigns for a sound and sustainable transport system for Britain: www.eta.co.uk.

Company policy
If your company has an established enviromental policy, consider applying for formal accreditation to an environmental management standard such as the EU Eco-Management Audit Scheme (EMAS).
Find out whether your place of work uses "green" or renewable energy. If not, encourage it to change.
Switch off lights in meeting rooms and turn off computers and electrical appliances when they are not being used.
Try to persuade your company to purchase FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) furniture from Blueline Office Furniture at www.blueline.uk.com.
Find out whether your company uses recycled paper, and if not, encourage it to change. Panda paper, from Antalis (www.antalis.co.uk), is made from 100-per-cent post-consumer waste. Recycled storage boxes can be purchased from Fellowes: www.fellowes.com.
Collect used printer cartridges and send them to Office Green to be recycled: www.officegreen.com.
Encourage your company to invest ethically, but ensure that professional advice is taken first
If your place of work receives unsolicited faxes, contact the fax preference service, fps@dma.org.uk to have your fax number made unavailable

Personal policy
Set your printer to print on both sides of the paper
Use e-mail where appropriate, rather than faxing or writing
Re-use envelopes
Recycle paper after use
