Would it be enough?
It was afternoon, as it was just me and the kids I decided to have an informal meal and took out a pack of a dozen sausages
to fry, four apiece for the three of us, as I was in the middle of this, the maid arrived. Coming straight to my place from
another part-time job without having had lunch, she threw me in a quandary, for what could I offer her now. I decided to give
her two of my hot dogs and leave two for myself, not such a good idea as neither of us would be very satisfied with two, but
the best I could do, suddenly the kids solved the problem for me, "Mama why don't we all give her one each, that way
we all will have three". How simple it was and we all had enough.
Could not such a simple solution be applied to larger problems, problems of poverty, scarcity and World hunger. If only
we all who have, give but a little, would not everybody have enough?
Today we lavish ourselves and our children with every material comfort whether we or they need it or not, while a large
part of the world continues to face unbelievable suffering; hunger even thirst from famine, poverty, disease, illiteracy.
While we view the future as one filled with golden oppurtunities there are many who wonder if there will even be a next meal.
Isn't it time we spared a thought about them. Isn't it time that when we went to an expensive restaurant, or bought that new
dress, or the latest toy for our kids we wondered what that amount could mean to some one some where? Isn't it time we spread
a little HOPE? Think about it!
What a Waste!
He lay dead! He was just 18, he had yet to experience life. People looked at him and sighed and said "He was so
young, he had seen nothing of life. Oh! What a waste!"
The angels looked at him and said "Oh happy soul, to have lived a life so complete!"
In his short life he had not caused hurt to any by word or deed, he greeted all he met with a kind word and a smile, cheerfully
he offered a hand to any who needed it. He spread good cheer wherever he went and truly cared about everyone, friend and stranger.
There was none that met him whose day was not a little brighter for that meeting. He gave love to all with an honest and
open heart and got unlimited love in return. And when he died everyone cried for he left a void in every life he had touched.
He lay dead! He was 79, rich, powerful and famous. He had achieved everything he had set out to do. People looked at him
and said, "A life well lived indeed." But the angels looked at him and said, "Oh! what a waste!"
For in achieving his ambition he had been ruthless, he had trampled many on the way, he was proud and haughty and had
no kind word or smile to offer anyone. People feared him and held him in awe but none loved him. He had given large donations
but only for the publicity, there had been no charity in him and no mercy. He ordered and commanded but never requested. The
words he had spoken were often harsh and rude and hurtful. He was often angry and rarely smiled. He had long ago alienated
his family and the only friends he had were sycophants who clung to him because of his money and position. When he died no
one cried, for at his death there was none that felt a loss.
This is not a true story but the thought has come from observation of real life. Often I have seen people being rude or
insulting for no reason at all when it is so easy to smile or speak a kind word to someone, it costs us nothing and gives
so much happiness to the other person, yet we desist from this simple act or cause hurt and pain when we could be doing the
opposite. The opportunities when we could give a little happiness to someone and we don't are the true wasted opportunities
in our life. So take the time to smile and speak a word of kindness, consideration or encouragement to all you meet. It is
so easy to do.
Food for Thought:
What would change in your speech if you found out that everything you said each day
would be printed in the newspaper the following day for all to read?
If you wouldn't want other people to read what you said - does it bother you that God hears every word you say?
If we divided our words into four categories: Exalting, Edifying, Empty, Evil, which category do you use most?
What is your biggest struggle when it comes to your words (i.e. gossip, cursing, talking about others...)?
How much of what you say each day is hurtful or useless? What are you going to do about it?
A little Piece of wisdom from the net;
The Wolf
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that
was going on inside himself.
He said, "My son, it is between 2 wolves. One is evil: Anger,
envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt,
resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.
The other is good: Joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,
kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and
faith..."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his
grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one I feed."
Consider This....
