I am an American Muslim, of Kashmiri-Pakistani background. I have lived 30 of my 34 years in the U.S., but I have visited different countries as well. I have always been fascinated by different cultures and beliefs.

I believe that to work towards peace we need to tackle the issue of oppression. And that most violence has its roots in systemic, unmitigated oppression.

I have an MA in International Relations, and am familiar with French (once I was fluent), as well as Urdu and Punjabi.

I am a Californian through and through, but I love my roots and my faith, even as I respect the rights of others.

of buried mountains
leave the house for the trees
traverse the tips of glaciers
and dive into the ocean of your
mortality...

a house of hollow sustenance
facade gleams like Darwin
yet inside the crumbling rooms
embrace the dream of ancients

all that deludes your eyes
will never quench the fire -
conquer first the Self
and climb the mountains
of the Soul...

on the summit
burn in constancy
with selfless Desire.
