The Good We Do
Life sometimes is like a boat adrift
Tossed high on stormy seas
No rudder, no sail, no control,
A plaything of destiny
Though life's crossroads do offer
Choices of paths to me
They each have similar comforts
and degrees of difficulty
but though fates obscured, I rest assured
of one thing there's a guarantee
we reap what we sow and the good we do
returns manifold to us eventually
smoothening the paths we pass through life
acting as barriers against adversity
For Merciful, Just and Wise is the Creator
maintaining each balance perfectly
Humanity,
recently you have started a new century,
Not knowing the destination of your journey,
so short sighted; you have zero visibility.
Unaware of your own accountability.
Pompous, Self-satisfied and full of arrogance,
glance at the heavens to see your insignificance.
A grasping, seething, jostling, writhing mass,
Somewhere down the road you lost all class.
You've cleared forests and towering jungles built,
Where mind, heart, body and soul do wilt.
No danger here from any wild beasts
Man stalks man on the dark city streets.
Greedy, corrupt and selfish you have grown,
What harvest you'll reap from the seeds you have sown?
Only for yourself, your thoughts you can spare,
With the wretched and needy, you've nothing to share.
You learnt to compete at an early age,
And went on competing at every stage.
Not men but mice, running like rats in a race,
Never stopping, afraid you will lose your place.
You have no time, to reflect or think,
For all your answers you just pay your shrink.
Knowledge you seek only to earn,
You derive no pleasure from what you learn.
Where are you philosophers, artists, thinkers,
Your, adventurers, pioneers, explorers?
Your minds have now begun to stagnate
To be trapped in mediocrity is your fate.

The Dream
Last night as I peacefully slept
The strangest of strange dreams I then dreamt
I dreamt that the whole human race,
Had now somehow got the same face.
No more white, nor black, yellow, nor brown,
Now grey as ash were the folk in each town
The eyes were the same, so were ears and nose,
Same mouths, same chins, even the same toes.
Grey haired, grey eyed, and clothed in grey,
They marched in unison as they went on their way.
Was it the Chinese red army all marching fine,
Or robots coming off the assembly line?
Like echoes were their each word and thought
There were no arguments, no one fought.
They nodded their heads and smiled in assent
They all consented there was no dissent.
There was just one race, colour and creed,
From all our differences we were suddenly freed.
There would be no wars and no more fights,
Peace would have a chance to rise to new heights.
No more our differences would add interesting diversity
We were doomed to be cloaked in boring uniformity
We each were once unique, and had something to give,
Now we were all the same was it the way to live?
No more could we from others learn,
And give and enrich them in our turn.
From our individualities we had been stripped bare
We had nothing to give, we had nothing to share.
I woke from my dream and upon it pondered
I sat up and reflected, thought and wondered
Before we each respect all in the human race,
Will the human race have to have the same face.

Just like You
My hair is a different colour
From yours
and so are
My eyes and skin
My language is full of words,
Strange and unintelligible
To your ears
I turn to God
In worship, in a way
You do not understand
So you say
We are different
That I am,
In no way,
Just like You!
But...
As a child
I played and sang
And tripped about merrily
Without a care in the world
I splashed in rain puddles
And looked for pictures
in the clouds,
And sought comfort
in the warm soft arms
of my mother
Just like YOU!
As I grew up
I dreamt some dreams
Of success
And happiness
and love,
Of an unseen shadowy lover
Who would make my dreams
come true
wrapping me in a cocoon
of love and caring...
Just like YOU!
And then one day
The dreams came true
The shadowy figure
Took on form and shape
wrapping me in a cocoon of
love and caring.
I turned to him with love and trust
Like a flower to the sun
Giving in his care
My most fragile
And secret dreams...
Just like You!
And sometimes,
when he was away
I sighed and yearned
For the warmth
Of his arms.
His sweet words
His caresses.
I watched the clock
And waited by the phone
Or stood in the window
Waiting, watching
A little afraid
A little concerned
With heart beating fast...
Just like YOU!
We made a world
Full of love and warmth
And its been Blessed
And adorned with
innocent smiles
and shining eyes
Dirty grubby arms
come fling themselves,
around my neck
A hundred times a day.
And my being is filled
With untold warmth...
Just Like YOU!
And at night
As I watch them sleep
Peacefully, securely
Dreaming innocent dreams
A lump comes
to my throat
And a wish
Overwhelms me
With its intensity
To see them
Safe, secure and happy
Always!
Just like YOU!
My hair is a different colour
From yours
and so are
My eyes and skin
My language is full of words
Strange and unintelligible
To your ears
I turn to God
In worship in a way
You do not understand
But will you still say
We are different
That I am
In no way
Just like You!
