Nature's Gate
Slow foot falls on wild-wood path, only pelt by hoof, and paw.
No wheel before has scared, or scarred, or felt this forest floor.
Goodwill, my soul intent, feeling unified elation,
one with Earth, content rhythm beats among wild relation.
With breeze on breath, in time step, through the pleasure of this day.
Sunshine set a dappled course, blessed, I was, to wend my way
on coniferous lined lane where wild child is free to pass
by uprooted majesty. Crowned one fell across the grass.
Ease up the gait, to navigate, the maze of nature's gate.
Bow down the head beneath downed boughs whose time had become late.
Portal arcs between dying limbs still plush with old green garb.
Warns of injury from pointed breaks, stabs from sharpened barb.
Laid softly on the ground by live branch of fellow tree.
An old sentinel felled, now guards a seed row nursery.

Natural Reverence
Reverence for lives, is what this is about.
The animal's rights have never worked out.
There are scared chimpanzees living in labs!
Polar bears.. sitting on concrete slabs!
Housing poor tigers in small apartments.
Most zoos are just..animal compartments.
Testing products on a sweet, gentle bunny?
Are circus elephants, really that funny?
Beasts slain for the fattest nation on Earth,
for food is what their dignity is worth.
Stalking called hunting, cruelty called game.
Killing the innocent, always called shame!
Fall, time to fell wildlife with a rifle.
Chase woodland breath, catch it to stifle.
Slashing, and burning tropical forest,
against all ecological protest!
Doomed animals in the bush poachers meet,
serves the debased... horrible bush meat!
Dragnet fishing depleting oceans, vast.
How long can starving marine mammals last?
What of the birds, no rest, no nest, no trees.
Scraping the earth, no flowers for bees.
Disrespectful, to tilt nature's balance.
The strong will survive, the elk and wolf dance!
Loving animals, not just dog and cat.
Revere God's creatures, preserve habitat!

R.I.P. KEIKO
~~~~~~~~
Keiko's tears could have filled an ocean!
Where did man, ever get the notion
that freedom is best at any cost?
Freeing Willy, this orca was lost.
Lost in the frenzy of well meant fame,
bestowed upon, by man's guilty shame.
The foolish deed of Keiko's capture
evolved to be his loving rapture.
Aquarium tamed, wasn't equipped
to survive the sea where he was shipped.
Gone! Human attention, he desired.
Missing companionship he acquired.
Wouldn't unlearn, fish came from the hand.
Couldn't undo damage done by man,
an outcast orca, fearing the wild.
To fend for himself, like a lone child.
Now..bereft! Then..for crowds instinct sold.
Now left to sink in the deep blue cold.
Lonely, no pod took him in the end.
Ill, followed boats, died to be man's friend.
Factory Flyer
Such a cruel sentence for a baby hen
Her little feet sore from the wire clad pen.
She needs some comfort, like all babies do,
not in a cage with a frightening view!
Her brother is scared, with no place to hide,
come rest by her shoulder, lean by her side.
In life, the only comfort they'll ever know,
together in prison, before they grow.
She'll nuzzle her sibling, for in just weeks
men will pluck them apart, cut off their beaks.
Stacked in a building, crushed to a stranger,
fearing each day her life is in danger.
Yearning for soil to scratch looking for things,
no room to lay down, or stretch out her wings.
In brief slumber waves of life in her dream
of chicks through sun fields, to drink from a stream.
Then, awake, to the din, lights that won't dim,
thoughts of brother, and what happened to him?
No babies for her! No sweet grass filled nest!
No guardian rooster with bright red crest.
Wings beat the hand that deems her fate dire,
cuts her body, labels her a fryer.
Pity her life in a factory farm.
She deserved to live free, and flee from harm!
